You can't just drink juice all the time. Even though I'm right at the source, I like to make myself a fresh smoothie every now and then. In the near future I want to introduce you to some of my favorite recipes here on the blog. We start with a very special ingredient: Moringa. In this green smoothie recipe, I'll show you how it's done.


Moringa is one of my top five superfoods because it's packed with antioxidants, is a great source of protein, and is also high in beta-carotene and amino acids. I love to add it to my morning green smoothie or liquid salad . Gram for gram, moringa is said to have twice the protein of yogurt, four times the vitamin A of carrots, three times the potassium of bananas, four times the calcium of milk, and a whopping eight times the vitamin C of fresh oranges. Wow.

But what actually is Moringa? The superfood powder is obtained from the leaf of the Moringa Oleifera tree, which is particularly widespread in Africa. As you can easily see from my list, it is one of the most nutrient-rich plants that have ever been discovered. Fresh moringa powder is deep green, has a rich, nutty flavor, and is obtained by drying the small leaves. After drying, the dry leaves are ground and impurities are filtered out. The powder is usually filled into airtight bags. Packaged in this way, the superfood powder can be stored for a few months without losing any of its nutritional content.

Moringa powder contains 20 types of amino acids, 46 antioxidants, 36 anti-inflammatory compounds and more than 90 other valuable nutrients. An ideal dietary supplement.

Before I get too bogged down in this stuff: Here is my recipe for a delicious green superfood smoothie.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 teaspoon moringa powder

  • 1 apple

  • 1 cucumber

  • 2 sticks of celery

  • 1 handful of spinach leaves

  • 1 handful of kale (fresh, please)

  • 1/2 lemon


Preparation:
We're making a smoothie - so let's get all that stuff in the blender! Halve or quarter the apple and cucumber beforehand. And don't forget: drink up quickly. Blending (in contrast to cold pressing) traps oxygen, which allows the green smoothie to oxidize quickly. So down with it.
